Need A Fresh Face? How To Prepare For Your Botox Injections

As you age, your face develops fine lines around your eyes and your forehead. Unfortunately, there's no way to stop the formation of those fine lines and wrinkles. But, there are ways to erase them once they appear. Plastic surgery is one way to erase those lines. Not everyone wants to go that route, though. If you're one of those people, it's time to take a closer look at Botox. Botox is an effective way to erase the fine lines and wrinkles that make you appear older. Best of all, you can have these injections administered in an office. That means you don't need to worry about hospital stays or surgical procedures. Here are some steps that will help you prepare for your first Botox injections.

Know Your Limitations

If you're going to have Botox injections for the first time, know your limitations. There are restrictions that can prevent you from receiving the injections. Before you receive your injections, make sure you're a good candidate. If you're pregnant or nursing, you shouldn't have Botox injections. Also, if you suffer from nerve or muscle disorders, you should also avoid Botox injections. If you're unsure, talk to your doctor before you have your first set of injections.

Take a Break From Smoking

If you smoke, now's a good time to stop. Cigarettes can interfere with your body's ability to heal properly. Not only that, but smoking can increase your risk for bruising after Botox injections. The best way to avoid that is to stop smoking before you have your Botox injections. If you haven't been successful in your attempts to quit smoking, take a break. You can start back up after you've healed.

Discuss Your List of Medications

If you take medications on a routine basis, talk to your doctor before your scheduled Botox appointment. Botox can have an adverse effect on some medications. Some of those medications include blood thinners, muscle relaxants, and allergy medications. Before your appointment, make a list of all the medications you take. Give the list to your doctor before you have your first set of Botox injections. You can also take your medication bottles to your appointment. That way, your doctor can see the labels for precise prescription information.

Avoid the Use of Makeup and Moisturizers

If you're scheduled for Botox injections, show up with a fresh face. Things like dirt and oil can cause problems for your Botox injections. Wash your face with a gentle cleanser before your appointment. Don't use any creams or moisturizers either.
